We have only few hours here. Time to write a few lines of thanks in the lighthouse guestbook:
Aqui termina Cuba! Nowhere else could I have found the true soul of Cuba, gentle Cuba, Cuba the gracious hostess, than here at the Maisi lighthouse standing amidst the tortured Cacti!
Here in this desert, from one sunrise to the next, everyone goes about their simple tasks, from caring for the doll's house to the ultimate care for the lamp to keep sailors safe.
No one in Maisi shoudl envy the noisy cities, far, far away! If there is happiness anywhere on earth, it is here, in this large family circle, in the patio's gentle shade, under the lamp that truns to mark the Winward Passage.
I will board one of those great white airplanes and head back to Montr?al and its University and Botanical Garden. But I will dream of coming back here to work and of preparing other botanical expeditions around the island of Cuba.
