Youth Gardens

Grow and harvest your own vegetables!

For 8 to 15 year-olds

Do you think that vegetables would taste even better if you grew them yourselves? Here's your chance to find out. Join the Youth Gardens at the Montréal Botanical Garden.

You'll be given your own 2 m x 4 m plot in which to grow and harvest your own vegetables and herbs.

Here's what you'll do :

  • In April, you'll spend one Saturday in the greenhouses at the Botanical Garden planting vegetable seeds.
  • In May and June, as soon as weather permits, you'll spend a few hours on a couple of weekends caring for your seedlings, preparing your plot and planting it.
  • All summer long, you will spend two half-days a week gardening. You'll have to water your plot, weed it and harvest your vegetables once they've grown. You'll see how much fun gardening can be, especially with friends your age and instructors there to help. You'll be placed in one of two age groups: 8-11 or 12-15.
  • In September, you'll come back one last time to help harvest all the remaining crops. Finally, you and all your gardening friends will receive a diploma at an evening award ceremony.

It doesn't cost much to join the Youth Gardens: just $15 for the whole season.

For an additional fee, you can also take part in outings organized by the Botanical Garden day camp.

A whole world to discover!
For 7 to 14 year olds.

Certified Day Camp

Did you know that Montréal has one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world? In the heart of the city, it allows us to stay in touch with nature. When you visit the Botanical Garden, you'll discover plants, flowers, trees and rocks of all kinds, and you can spot the many animals that call the Garden home, including birds, insects, fish, squirrels and even rabbits! It brings nature right to your doorstep.

The Botanical Garden Day Camp is organized around different themes, all of them focused on the natural sciences. It's up to you to choose which theme you're interested in (plants, insects, rocks and minerals). Your time will be divided up between outings, games and the theme you've chosen. Whichever theme you choose, you'll spend a few hours a week gardening. Planting seeds, thinning seedlings, hoeing and picking the fruits of your labor-you'll see how much work is involved.

The Botanical Garden Day Camp complies with all the standards of the Québec Camping Association.
