The collections of the Montréal Botanical Garden were started in 1936, under the direction of
Henry Teuscher, the Garden's first curator, and have now reached the respectable figure of more
than 21,000 taxa.
Of these, 11,000 species give the one million visitors to the Garden every year a glimpse of
the amazing variety of plants on Earth.
The other 10,000 taxa include many hybrids and horticultural selections, and testify
to the impressive adaptability of the plant kingdom.
