menu The lotus
an outstanding plant

Green Pages

Uses of lotus

All parts of the sacred lotus are edible.

The leaves are used for serving or wrapping around other food before it is cooked. The seeds can be ground to obtain an almond-flavored flour. The stalks are often sliced and added to salads. The rhizome is eaten raw or cooked.

The plant is also used for medicinal purposes. And the seed head, fresh or dried, is often used in flower arrangements.
