Pennisetum setaceum
Family : Poaceae
This grass is an interesting study in contrasting textures.
Run your hand from the base to the tip of one of its long, narrow leaves, and they will feel quite soft.
But stroke it in the opposite direction, and you will feel as though your fingers are running into tiny, regularly spaced spines.
Come August, the rough stems are tipped with silky plumes that blow about freely in the wind.
