Molson Hospitality Greenhouse

The purpose of this greenhouse, located right next door to the Reception Center and gate to the other exhibition greenhouses, is to convey basic concepts in plant biology to visitors.

The permanent exhibit "The Key to the Greenhouses" illustrates the ways plants obtain food, protect themselves, and reproduce. The visitor is guided by interactive exhibits and information panels.

This huge subtropical greenhouse can display such large specimens from the Monocotyledons*, a botanical group of flowering plants, including palm trees and bamboo plants.

Insectivorous plants are also showcased.

* The Monocotyledons (or Monocots) are flowering plants (Angiosperms) which have seeds (or embryo) with a single cotyledon (the seed leaf, the first leaf sent out by the germinating seed). Many Monocots have leaves with parallel veins.
