Orchids and Aroids Conservatory

Imagine this picture: On crumbling old walls, vestiges of forgotten splendor, nature reclaims its ground. Plants with elegant, extravagant blooms take root between the exposed stones.

This is the spectacle provided by the Orchids and Aroids Conservatory, whose flowers are among the most fascinating to be found.

The 1,500 orchid species and hybrids of the Montréal Botanical Garden are displayed in this conservatory when in flower. Along with the magnificent orchids are aroids, a family including dieffenbachias, philodendrons and other popular indoor plants.

Renovated few years ago, the conservatory now resembles an ancient ruined fortress with cobblestones that once graced the streets of Old Montréal.
