PRESS RELEASE - MARCH 2002

Ulysse Award: Special Mention
for the First Nations Garden
of the Montreal Botanical Garden

The First Nations Garden, in the Montréal Botanical Garden, has earned a special mention in the Grands Prix du tourisme for the Montréal region, in the 100,000 visitors or more category.

The competition, organized by Tourisme Montréal and supported by the Quebec government, pays tribute every year to outstanding achievements in the tourism industry.

The First Nations Garden, which opened on August 3, 2001, is devoted to illustrating the close bonds that Indians and Inuit have always had with the plant world. It is designed to evoke a natural environment, and introduces visitors to plants important as materials, food and medicine to the eleven First Nations of Quebec. The new garden, covering 2.5 hectares, is the culmination of three years of work and the realization of one of Brother Marie-Victorin's unfulfilled dreams.
