Decorated pumpkins will be all decked out for the Great Pumpkin Ball. Come admire the wacky, creative efforts of their talented designers in this one-of-a-kind exhibition in Montréal.

Pumpkin-decorating Contest

The Botanical Garden's famous pumpkin-decorating contest is back and everyone, young and old, is invited to enter! Transform your pumpkin or squash into a witch, dragon, vampire, ghost or whatever you please. All the masterpieces will be displayed as part of the Great Pumpkin Ball in the Garden's Main Exhibition Greenhouse. There are lots of prizes to be won.
Bring your work of art to the Reception Centre at the Botanical Garden from October 6 and 15, 2011. No pumpkins brought to the Garden after the deadline will be entered in the contest.

Contest closing date: October 15 at noon

Vote for the pumpkin you feel is the most original and successful, and you could win a prize. Winning pumpkins and winners' names will be available on November 1st, 2011.

Play area for children under age 10.
New games and even more fun await children this year. They can test their skills with the Insect Soup and Feed the Creatures games and have a blast trying to cross the tricky river and the shaky bridge!

Pépo enquête

Pépo, our Halloween star, is playing detective this year to try to figure out who kidnapped his sister Péponide. As part of his investigation, he’ll be questioning the cucumber, melon and decorative gourd, all members of his big plant family, the Cucurbitaceae.

Squash Kiosk

Introducing the Cucurbitaceae family. Join our exceptionally knowledgeable activity staff for a fascinating look at the some forty different kinds of squash grown at the Botanical Garden. Last year, they answered questions from nearly 10,000 curious visitors. Step right up, it's free!

These squash-based recipes will encourage people to make greater use of these little-known fruits.

Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) kiosk

Come meet passionate farmers, professionals sincerely determined to feed their fellow-citizens with healthy and tasty food. Draw of baskets full of regional products, quiz on Quebec's agriculture, answers to your questions by farmers from here.

Transform a simple square of paper into a pumpkin, spider or black cat. Discover the art of origami, or "paper folding". Fun for the whole family.

Picnic tent

There's room in the tent for hundreds of young participants in our Halloween festivities to sit and eat their lunch. Picnic tables and lunchbox storage space available in the tent.
Capacity: 300 children at each sitting.
