Lord Strathcona was an officer of the Hudson's Bay Company. He was a businessman, politician, diplomat, philanthropist and chancellor of McGill University. He was one of the university's most important benefactors and his donations contributed to the construction of the Royal Victoria College and the Donalda Endowment for the Higher Education of Women.
