Portrait of William C. MacDonald (1831-1917).
MacDonald was a tobacco manufacturer and, during the 1850-1914 era, McGill's most generous philanthropist. He was a governor and chancellor of the university and funded the construction of many buildings including MacDonald College. He also provided funds to establish numerous scholarships and chairs.
