Michel Normandin.
Autographed photo of broadcaster Michel Normandin dedicated to bandleader Mynie Sutton.
Normandin (1913-1963) became one of the best-known sports broadcasters in French-Canada, the voice of the Montréal Canadiens, the Montréal Royals baseball team, and the first to broadcast play-by-play of football in French. Radio station CHLP began broadcasting in 1933 from studios in the Sun Life Building in downtown Montréal. It became CFMB in 1962, a multilingual broadcaster. It took over the former CJMS frequency in 1997. In the 1930s Sutton's (1903-1982) band, the Canadian Ambassadors, regularly did live radio broadcasts from Montréal nightclubs on local radio stations.
Circa 1935.
