Correspondence between Brother Marie-Victorin and Henry Teuscher.

In March 1932, the City of Montreal granted an initial sum for the construction of greenhouses.

Marie-Victorin, seeking a landscape architect, goes to New York. He knows that although he is the founder of the Garden, he cannot be its designer.

Elmer D. Merrill (1876-1956), director of the New York Botanical Garden, recommends Henry Teuscher (1891-1984), landscape architect, horticulturist and botanist born in Germany, having emigrated to the United States in 1922.

From this results a long correspondence, which reflects their competence and personality and which will culminate in the much anticipated arrival of Teuscher in Montreal in 1936.

The archives of Henry Teuscher's correspondence are held at the Montréal Botanical Garden Library (JBM 01, S2, SS4), while that of Marie-Victorin is preserved in the Archives of the University of Montreal.
