Hybridization: A complex scientific process

Rose hybridization in four steps: Second step

After one or several days, the bag protecting the flower is removed on the female parent. Dry pollen will be put on the stigmata (superior part of the gynoecium) with a clean brush, cleaned in alcohol between each use. Ivan Louette from Belgium suggests using feathers as they are cheap and easy to find, as well as disposable. After pollination, some breeders cover the flower again.

It is important to note the information on the cross in a data file or a notebook, called the register.
