Greening the city

The Botanical Garden initiated and for many years supported various programs promoting the "greening" of the city ? the Villes et villages fleuris beautification campaign, the Place au soleil program and the creation of community gardens. All these efforts helped spark modern-day Quebecers' love affair with gardening.

In the early 80s, Pierre Bourque, the Botanical Garden's director at the time,
launched a "green" movement for the city's alleyways.
