The building and the greenhouses

The Marie-Victorin Building:
Stone and brick in harmony

This imposing building is a unique example of Art Deco architecture in North America.

It was designed by architect Lucien K?roack (1886-1951), a distant cousin of Brother Marie-Victorin, in co-operation with Henry Teuscher, who also planned the gardens themselves. The fountain, cascading ponds and fence blend in seamlessly and the gardens complete the picture, forming a harmonious whole.

The main brick structure was added in 1938. Its "H" shape, common to many hospitals and religious buildings, makes the most of natural daylight.

It was named the Marie-Victorin building in 1999.

The colourful low relief panels representing typical Canadian themes are by sculptor Henri Hébert. This is a highly unusual one-of-a-kind finish for a building exterior.
