The Citizens of Tomorrow educational visit was developed by the Centre d’histoire de Montréal, together with the Section des archives de la Ville de Montréal, within the framework of the temporary exhibition Their Worships, the Mayors – A Comedy in 3 Acts, presented at the Centre d’histoire de Montréal from September 18 to December 6, 1998.
Students and teachers alike enjoyed the activity so much that the Centre d’histoire de Montréal included it among its regular educational visits for the following year, integrating elements from the temporary exhibition into the museum’s permanent exhibition.
With the renewal of the permanent exhibition at the Centre d’histoire de Montréal in 2001, the visit was retained and revised, since it meets the objectives of the Québec school educational program perfectly. Its objective of introducing school children to the concepts of democracy and citizenship is as relevant as ever. The municipal context makes it possible to bring these notions within reach of the students. In fact, the services that the city offers touch their daily lives.
