The staff of the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum in Chicago invites all IPS members to a special visit of their new facilities. The museum underwent major renovations in recent years and the IPS Conference in Montréal is the ideal opportunity for IPS participants to take in the new astronomy exhibits and the old and the new Star theatre. Don't miss it! (See attached invitation.)

Biodôme & Jardin Botanique, Montréal, Québec, Canada

For participants and guests, a special visit of the Biodôme and Jardin Botanique de Montréal has been set for the afternoon of Sunday, July 9, 2000. Departure is from the Queen Elizabeth Hotel and don't worry, you will be back on time for the Welcoming Reception scheduled for 6:00 pm. Cost is $20 CDN. Maximum 45 guests.

Post-Conference Tours

Mont-Mégantic Observatory, Notre-Dame des Bois, Québec, Canada

Participants may visit the largest professional observatory in Québec. The Mont-Mégantic Observatory is located in Notre-Dame des Bois in Québec's Eastern Townships, about 3 hours drive from Montréal. The Observatory houses a 1.6-meter (64 inch) Ritchey-Chrétien telescope. It is run jointly by Université de Montréal and Université Laval in Québec City. We will also visit the AstroLab, a museum dedicated to practical astronomy located at the base of Mont Mégantic, and enjoy the charms of Magog, a small resort town located on the shores of Lake Memphrémagog.

The tour includes: 1 pack lunch, 1 dinner, admission to the sites, transportation by bus and tour guide, departure from and return to Montréal.

Departure is on Friday July 14, 2000, 9:00 am from the Queen Elizabeth Hotel with a return to the hotel at 9:00 pm. Cost is $90 CDN (based on a minimum of 25 participants).

Northcountry Planetarium, Plattsburgh, New York, U.S.A.
(Friday, July 14, 2000)

The staff of the Northcountry Planetarium invites all IPS members to a special visit of their facilities. The theatre underwent major renovations in recent years and the IPS Conference in Montréal is the ideal opportunity for IPS participants to admire the new Star theatre and the work done by the staff of the Northcountry Planetarium. There will also be a visit of research facilities relating to astronomy at State University of New York at Plattsburgh (radio-telescope and meteorite laboratory). Should you choose this option, you will receive a specific schedule for that day. Plattsburgh is an easy, 75-minute drive from Montréal, across the U.S. border; it is possible to visit the facilities of the Northcountry Planetarium and return to Montréal within a single day.

First, discover Ottawa, Canada's national capital. You get to visit the Parliament Buildings and the Canadian Museum of Civilizations. Then, it's off to Kingston to visit beautiful Fort Henry. Coming back to Montréal, enjoy a cruise among the islands of the St. Lawrence River and visit historic Upper Canada Village.
