From Northern Telecom to Nortel Networks

Northern Telecom Ltd (1954),
Northern Electric,
Nortel Networks Ltd

The operations of this major electronics pioneer in Saint-Laurent date back to 1954 when the company was known as Northern Electric.

In an effort to unify its international assets, in 1976 the company changed its name to Northern Telecom Ltd. Over the years, its activities have focused on the design, manufacture and sale of private and public telephone switching stations, electronic equipment platforms and coaxial cables for cable television. In 1995, it became Nortel. With the acquisition of Bay Networks in 1998, it changed its name again to Nortel Networks, and since then has acquired numerous companies active in the communications industry.
