In 1929, Robert Mitchell Inc. built a huge modern foundry - near Décarie boulevard and Saint-Louis street to replace its facility in Saint-Henri. While under normal circumstances it manufactured and marketed all types of utensils, World War II considerably changed its vocation. The foundry gradually began to specialize in the production of forgings and castings in response to the growing demand for aeronautics parts. At the peak of the war, the company employed as many as 8,000 workers.
